LISTEN TO EPISODE 61: PENNHURST ASYLUM
T. Fox Dunham & Phil Thomas are at haunted Pennhurst Asylum! This is their first show recorded on site at the closed Pennsylvania mental hospital. In addition to being a historic site of importance to scholars, at Halloween time, it opens as a spooky attraction, a haunted house with several buildings, each with different stories, to explore.
(From their website)
Pennhurst Asylum is a “Hospital” themed walk through attraction featuring many items and artifacts that are salvaged from the original State School. Located on the upper floors of the old Administration building, which dates to 1908, this attraction features fine detail and realism through a combination of high tech animatronics, digital sound and highly trained actors.
THE DUNGEON OF LOST SOULS
Enter the world of the underground as your soul is led down the steps of the past to go back in time to a labyrinth of dilapidated cells, never ending halls, and be forced to confront a series of human experiments that have gone horribly and deadly wrong. This experience includes CGI special effects, illusions, attention to detail and ghosts that have never left the halls.
CONTAINMENT (TUNNELS) NEW* 2017!
Containment is a new attraction for 2017 that takes you through a 1,200 foot long gauntlet underneath the Pennhurst complex. Stationed as a government facility hidden underground for decades, you will bare witness to patients being experimented on in the most inhumane ways possible. Lucky for you, this research facility is still accepting patients! The brand new sets and scares of this attraction are guaranteed to produce horrifying screams and nightmares to come.
Open through the end of Halloween.
We’ll be back on October 13th to record another episode!
EPISODE 61! As part of our countdown to Halloween 2017, we hang out onsite while visitors enjoy the spooky show at Pennhurst Asylum. First, we do an interview with operation’s manager, Jim Werner. Jim tells us about both sides of the site’s notorious history. It has a bad reputation because of some terrible abuses that happened but it was also a place of life for many who thrived on this estate.
As is common for a site with a tragic history, Pennhurst is also renowned for its encounters with the paranormal. So many we spoke to have been touched by the other side. Often, the spirits fall into two categories of behavior: They’re seeking human contact or attacking with rage. We share several of the local ghost stories including that of Doctor Fear! Doctor Fear was a real doctor their on site who was brought up on charges after his abuses of patients came to light. Since then, his soul has returned to the decaying building. A famous EVP caught him speaking of burning bodies on the property.
We will have more ghost stories from the site on episode 62 after we speak to several ghost hunters who have explored the property and captured paranormal phenomenon.

NEW MUSIC FROM ZOMBIE DANDIES
We’re featuring the punk music of The Zombie Dandies on the next few episodes. We start with Halloween Again.
The Zombie Dandies are a musical project from Normandy, France. The story of the group started in 2011, when two… bored ghouls, Marty Dandy (Drums, Bass, Guitar & Vocals ) and K1000 Zombie (Guitar & Vocals), woke up from their graves with the unlikely idea of creating a glam-metal-meets-garage-rock musical project.
NEW GHOST STORY
While setting up, Fox encountered a young couple coming out early from the attraction. He spoke to the young woman, Ambrose, and recorded some of the paranormal encounters she’s suffered in her life. She tells the story of a religious doll who spews demonic speech!
Thanks to everyone who came out to see us at Pennhurst Asylum and we hope to see more of you on Friday, October the 13th!
(A Horror Medical Thriller Novel from Blood Bound Books.)

(Host of What Are You Afraid of Horror & Paranormal Podcast)
FANGORIA gives MERCY 3.5 out 4 Skulls – “Dunham has channeled his many brushes with the other side into the exquisitely rendered, lyrical supernatural hospital thriller MERCY.“ READ FULL REVIEW HERE.
“Part medical horror, part supernatural suspense, MERCY is a hard-hitting fever dream of a novel. I enjoyed the hell out of it!” ~ Tim Waggoner, author of The Way of All Flesh and Eat The Night
“Pain and poetry flow in equal measure through these pages. Dunham’s prose strikes deep and hits all the right notes. MERCY is unforgettably vivid.” ~ David Dunwoody, author of Hell Walks and The 3 Egos
William Saint is dying of cancer. On most days death seems like a humane alternative to the treatment. Stricken with fever, William is rushed to Mercy—notorious as a place to send the sickest of the poor and uninsured to be forgotten—and finds the hospital in even worse condition than his previous visit. The grounds are unkempt, the foundation is cracking, and like the wild mushrooms sprouting from fissures of decay around it, something is growing inside the hospital. Something dark. It’s feeding on the sickness and sustaining itself on the staff, changing them. And now it wants Willie.
This was my death.
Life is an addiction.
Love is the only force that is real. Read . . . and understand what I saw. I put it in metaphor. You do not understand what you do not understand.
