Special guest Katrina Weidman from Paranormal State and currently on the ghost-hunting show, Paranormal Lockdown on Destination America will be on the show, October 20th! To tell us about a life of exploring the paranormal! We are thrilled to have her.

Katrina Weidman: I’ve always had a passion for the supernatural and a desire to seek out the unknown! Growing up in haunted houses will kind of do that to you. As a child, I pored over any information I could find on the paranormal. I was fascinated that there were other houses like mine and wanted to know as much as I could. Ghosts, UFOs, cryptos, you name it, I was fascinated! Fast forward a few years to a trip to The Pennsylvania State University that changed everything! I dropped a friend off at the main campus one summer weekend, and the minute my feet hit the pavement, I had an overwhelming feeling that I needed to be there. Not being the academic type, I decided I had better pay attention to this feeling. The day I got back to my hometown, I signed up for classes at the local community college. It was there that I overcame the harsh words from that teacher long ago.

Currently, you can catch me on “Paranormal Lockdown” with my friend and colleague, Nick Groff, airing on TLC. “Paranormal Lockdown” follows Nick and me as we investigate and live in some of the world’s most haunted locations for 72 hours!

Part medical horror, part supernatural suspense, MERCY is a hard-hitting fever dream of a novel. I enjoyed the hell out of it!” ~ Tim Waggoner, author of The Way of All Flesh and Eat The Night

Pain and poetry flow in equal measure through these pages. Dunham’s prose strikes deep and hits all the right notes. MERCY is unforgettably vivid.” ~ David Dunwoody, author of Hell Walks and The 3 Egos

William Saint is dying of cancer. On most days death seems like a humane alternative to the treatment. Stricken with fever, William is rushed to Mercy—notorious as a place to send the sickest of the poor and uninsured to be forgotten—and finds the hospital in even worse condition than his previous visit. The grounds are unkempt, the foundation is cracking, and like the wild mushrooms sprouting from fissures of decay around it, something is growing inside the hospital. Something dark. It’s feeding on the sickness and sustaining itself on the staff, changing them. And now it wants Willie.

This was my death.

42: APOCALYPSE

Listen to Episode 42 – Apocalypse:

Humans are obsessed with the end of the world. Many times in history has some prophet predicted the apocalypse, and yet history continues. On this episode of What Are You Afraid Of? hosts Phil Thomas & T. Fox Dunham discuss the many ways the end might have come and why people find the idea exciting. For centuries, religious cadres and fringe groups have gained credibility by making predictions of doom and disaster. Over the last century, small congregations have sold their possessions and gathered together to await the rapture. It can overwhelm society too, such as the Y2K computer issue and the end of the Mayan calendar in 2012. Why do we love the idea of the end of the world so much?

And they worshipped the beast–from Revelations

The show’s got ghosts too! Rosie Bell, a friend from Scotland, shares a story of a ghost encounter on holiday in the UK. The show was also honored by found of Afterlife Goes On Paranormal Group, Gaylen Chauncey from Virginia. Gaylen has shared and narrated several of her most compelling EVPS (Electric Voice Phenomena) thought to be the voices of spirits recorded during paranormal investigations. These were recorded at the Waverly Hills Sanatorium.

Founder Gaylen Chauncey, is an author of ghost stories based on her real life experiences.  “The Make Believe In The Boogeyman Chronicles”,  novel is based on her monster encounters.  Tour guide at the haunted St. Albans Sanatorium.  She has been interviewed by TV/Radio/Internet Shows/News, with articles and pictures featured in Paranormal magazines/TV.  Has appeared in job fairs at schools and Ghost Conferences on Paranormal Investigating/Writer and has been the subject of college papers on the Supernatural/Paranormal.  Titled as an Aura Reader-ability to read the energy of a ghost and clairseeing (seeing spirits), it is why she goes first into any haunted place.  She also uses ability to help ghosts move to the light.  Researcher into the anything paranormal, and a Field Invesitgator for SML MUFON.  Runs the “Spirits of Christmas” toy run for homeless children each year. Our Dark Stories

We share the second part in our serial, Talk to Leo, from horror master John Foster, author of Mister White at Grey Matter Press. Host T. Fox Dunham contributes a story about another kind of apocalypse, The AIDS epidemic in Africa. My Country Dies. The World Dies. Some worlds end everyday.

New Music from Loftän

The show loves to bring you new Indie music with a bit of darker tone. We were contacted by a remarkable duo who shared some music with us for this episode. We play their song, Cover Girl. Check them out!

Loftän is a female singer-songwriter duo. Janell Riedl, an Oregon native, and Julia Mahncke, a recent transplant from Germany, write songs together as if they grew up in the same neighborhood and not on different sides of the atlantic. Their original music will make you want to hug someone, their banter will make you want to be friends with them. Their debut EP “From Here” was released in July 2016.

30: THE THREE GHOSTS

EPISODE 30: THE THREE GHOSTS

PLAY EPISODE 30: THE THREE GHOSTS

Author John Foster joins T. Fox Dunham & Phil Thomas for the last episode of 2016, celebrating the works of Charles Dickens. They discuss the most famous ghost story in the English language, A Christmas Carol, it’s history and relevance to the poverty of Victorian society. The three ghosts read respective passages from the book, each playing one of the ghosts. Then they discuss their holiday traditions, the busy life of an Indie author and John’s new book coming out from Perpetual Motion Machine Publishing, Baby Powder and other Deadly Substances, out in late January.

“It is required of every man,” the ghost returned, “that the spirit within him should walk abroad among his fellow-men, and travel far and wide; and, if that spirit goes not forth in life, it is condemned to do so after death.” Marley’s ghost tells Scrooge why he has appeared to him on Christmas Eve, wearing the chains he forged in life.

JOHN C. FOSTER

John C. Foster was born in Sleepy Hollow, New York and has been afraid of the dark for as long as he can remember. A writer of thrillers and dark fiction, Foster spent many years in the ersatz glow of Los Angeles before relocating to the relative sanity of New York City where he lives with the actress Linda Jones and their dog, Coraline. Foster’s short story “Mister White” first appeared in the Grey Matter Press anthology Dark Visions: A Collection of Modern Horror – Volume Two before inspiring the novelized version of this thrilling supernatural adventure of the same name. His fiction has appeared in numerous magazines, anthologies and Grey Matter Press releases. Foster released his first novel, Dead Men, in 2015. Mister White is his second adventure into long fiction suspense. For more information, visit JohnFosterFiction.com or GreyMatterPress.com.

His new book will be available from Perpetual Motion Machine Publishing, an anthology of dark short stories. Baby Powder and Other Dangerous Substances is available from PMMP.

Within these pages, you will board a train to Detroit on a route littered with the darkest monstrosities the mind can imagine (“Highballing Through Gehenna”); a man avenges his father’s murder in a series of violent mobster slayings (“Burial Suit”); a mute ventriloquist and his chattery dummy seek a therapist (“Talk to Leo”); future soldiers summon forth an ancient evil to battle an alien menace (“The Willing”); body smugglers crash land on a world where sinister trees feed on flesh (“Meat”); an interrogation takes a strange, psychedelic turn (“Girl Six”); a special agent investigates a potential alien invasion (“Red”); the undead infiltrate the Whiskey-A-Go-Go (“Dead on the Sunset Strip”); a man is hired by a nefarious agency to witness prison executions around the country (“A Lamb to Slaughter”); and a pair of paranormal scam artists suffer when they confront true evil (“Baby Powder”).

Buy this amazing anthology from PMMP now! ORDER HERE

The Weird Globe tells the story of a strange and perhaps supernatural encounter on an icy winter morning. What was it? A ghost, trick of the light, perhaps a winter fey? John Foster shares a new flash fiction piece for the season, The Worm of Poe, a story about how Christmas traditions can get insanely out of hand, read by professional voice actress, Linda Jones. Indie performer Derek Clegg ends the show with another unique and eccentric Christmas carol called I’m Not Drinking for Christmas, used with permission by the owner.

Happy Holidays, and we’ll see you in 2017 with more darkness.
