72: LEGEND OF WAMBUTIN

PLAY EPISODE 72: LEGEND OF WAMBUTIN

Horror authors T. Fox Dunham & Phil Thomas are back for their first show of 2018, The Legend of Wambutin. Who is this wild goblin that once haunted Phil’s love life? Phil laments the legend with co-host T. Fox Dunham while they discuss the freaky cold winter, the new Star Wars movie and how they’d haunt each other if they died. In addition to their witty banter, Fox narrates several ghost stories from the Philadelphia Zoo written by paranormal historian, Darcy Oordt from her book Haunted Philadelphia. They play a great punk song from Zombie Dandies, and British folksinger David Walton reads T. Fox Dunham’s horror tale, The Ice People from the Shades of Santa charity anthology. The spooky is back in 2018. The charity is Water.

Charity: Water

A non-profit bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. In just ten years, we’ve funded more than 22,000 water projects in 24 developing countries. When complete, these projects will provide clean, safe drinking water for more than 7 million people.

Nearly 663 million people in our world don’t have access to clean drinking water. Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.

The good news: there are simple solutions, from deep drilled wells to water filtration systems. And with the help of 1,000,000+ donors and individual fundraisers, we’re forming a strong force against the water crisis. Join us: http://cwtr.org/2tplpJs

Darcy Oordt, Author of Haunted Philadelphia

She grew up in a ghostly desert: not one known haunted house in her hometown of Blue Earth, Minnesota. It wasn’t until she moved to Tennessee that she experienced her first ghost while working as a tour guide for a “ghost” tour. Her first book Finding Success After Failure: Inspirational Stories of Famous People Who Persevered and Won Out, tells about the early failures of famous people and how they overcame them. In her free time, Darcy enjoys swimming with sharks, flipping houses, and exploring museums in exotic locations…if by “enjoy” you mean watching it on television. When she is not writing, you will usually find her making jewelry or crafts, fussing with one of her freshwater aquariums, or spending time with her pets. Darcy currently lives near Cherry Hill, New Jersey, across the bridge from the many phantoms of Philadelphia.

Darcy shares her stories about the cheeky ghost of Ben Franklin, how she researches ghost folklore and her life as a paranormal author and psychic. On this episode, we share stories from her collected book of ghost stories from Phiily, Haunted Philadelphia. Check out her spooky website for ghost stories and experiences at http://www.thehauntedinternet.com/index.html

Darcy was also featured on an episode of My Ghost Story, Screams in the Dark, on A&E! Check out the episode on YouTube.

Haunted Philadelphia

Philadelphia is known for many things: brotherly love, Revolutionary history, passionate sports fans, cheesesteaks, and Rocky are merely a few of them. But the Founding Fathers didn’t just walk the streets of Philadelphia 200 years ago, many still walk here…or so the story goes. Along the streets of Philadelphia you can find the ghosts of Ben Franklin, Betsy Ross, Alexander Hamilton, and Edgar Allen Poe. But those are only the famous ones. There are a few less known ghosts creeping around the historic streets. Nearby Fort Mifflin certainly has its share of hauntings, given its long history of sheltering soldiers and holding prisoners from the Revolutionary War up to the Civil War. And given all the cemeteries that have been established and then relocated–or not–it’s almost a given that thousands of disturbed graves might stir up a ghost or two. Available on Amazon.

British folksinger David Walton is back to read Darcy’s collected ghost stories at Inn Philadelphia.

Oh, were they wrong. Suddenly, music filled the building. Somehow the sound system, which had been off, had turned itself on and the volume up. The two men had enough. Without bothering to finish their duties, they turned off the sound system and lights, secured the building, and left.

Author Tim Waggoner

Part medical horror, part supernatural suspense, MERCY is a hard-hitting fever dream of a novel. I enjoyed the hell out of it!” ~ Tim Waggoner, author of The Way of All Flesh and Eat The Night

Pain and poetry flow in equal measure through these pages. Dunham’s prose strikes deep and hits all the right notes. MERCY is unforgettably vivid.” ~ David Dunwoody, author of Hell Walks and The 3 Egos

William Saint is dying of cancer. On most days death seems like a humane alternative to the treatment. Stricken with fever, William is rushed to Mercy—notorious as a place to send the sickest of the poor and uninsured to be forgotten—and finds the hospital in even worse condition than his previous visit. The grounds are unkempt, the foundation is cracking, and like the wild mushrooms sprouting from fissures of decay around it, something is growing inside the hospital. Something dark. It’s feeding on the sickness and sustaining itself on the staff, changing them. And now it wants Willie.

This was my death.

Life is an addiction.

Love is the only force that is real. Read . . . and understand what I saw. I put it in metaphor. You do not understand what you do not understand.
